This is a wonderful time of year if you are a wellness thinking person rather than a disease thinking person. Disease thinking people try to survive the holidays. They want to avoid the negatives, gaining weight and having a decrease in their fitness. Wellness thinking people do not think in terms of surviving, rather they think in terms of thriving. They want to enjoy the holidays. They want to be at their best!
.
The wellness thinking recommendation is to take the “green stick” approach. It says to bend a little but not to break. It is a simple matter of setting yourself up to be a winner. Pick three little things that you can easily control, do them perfectly (remember to chose little things that are easy to do perfectly), and then relax and enjoy the season. Put your efforts into doing these three things, rather than having a long list of things to avoid.
• First, always do your exercise.
• Secondly, always eat that bowel of cereal for breakfast, even if you are having a ten in the morning holiday brunch at the office, or you ate and drank too much the night before. Breakfast cereal starts the fire in the morning, but more importantly it says that today is a new day. It says forget yesterday’s mistakes.
• Thirdly, eat a light lunch. This not only keeps you awake at work, it reduces the stress of the fear of overdoing at dinner, which is the normal time to have a holiday celebration meal. You’ve cut yourself some slack at your evening celebration.
Try this wellness approach this year.
