Good News:

New research is showing that the “cravings” for fat do have a psychological aspect that is learned in childhood.

The Atkins Diet (A dangerous high fat diet that was very popular for over ten years and hooked many adults and thus their children.) is no longer the “good guy”. Complex carbohydrates (fruits, vegetables, grains) are back at the top of the recommended list.

Retraining away from fat may take even several years, but the efforts to change are worth it. You can be successful.

Great News:

Preference for eating fat drops when a low-fat eating style is followed on a regular basis.

Recommendations:

• Buy fat-free items such as margarine, cheese, salad dressings, mayonnaise, etc.
• Use ”Light” varieties if you are not quite ready for fat-free.
• Select lean cuts of meat.
• Avoid frying. (use baking and broiling)
• Ask for reduced fat at restaurants.
