Stress does not make you a sedentary person. The opposite is true: Not exercising is causing you to feel stressed. And the good news is whether or not you exercise is up to only you. You are in control. Nobody can keep you from taking a relaxing thirty minute walk before work every day, or keep you from taking a walk at work while you eat lunch.

Feeling better? Also, you can eat exactly how you want. No one can tell you how to eat. Once again, you are in control.

You decide to smoke cigarettes or become a non-smoker. You can decide whether or not alcohol is something you want to use. You can decide with your medical provider whether or not you should use a particular medication. You are in control. This is the “wellness” way of thinking.

The Process
The success or failure of any attempt at making lifestyle changes that are successful long-term can be predicted by how radical or drastic the changes made are. A good example is in weight loss attempts. Slow, steady, changes in eating behaviors insure that the weight loss will still be intact after two years. As one journeys on the road to becoming well, the plan must be personalized and have the concept of process (slowly changing step-by-step) as a major part of its foundation.
